Why getting the size right matters
Choose a unit that's too small and you'll run out of space; choose one that's too big and you'll pay for air. The good news is that sizing a unit is straightforward once you know what you're storing.
How to work out the space you need
Start by listing everything going into storage and grouping it by type — boxes, furniture, appliances and bulky items. A rough rule of thumb: a one-bedroom flat usually needs around 35–50 sq ft, a two-bed home 75 sq ft, and a three-to-four-bed house 100–160 sq ft.
Match your unit to your home
- 20 sq ft — a cupboard's worth of boxes and seasonal items
- 50 sq ft — half a garage, ideal for a one-bed flat
- 75 sq ft — a single garage, great for a two-bed home
- 100 sq ft — a full garage, suits a three-bed house
- 160 sq ft container — a double garage, for a four-bed house
Indoor vs container storage
Indoor units are accessed from inside the building, while drive-up containers let you park right outside the door. If you're storing bulky furniture or doing a full house move, a container makes loading far easier.
Top tip: It's almost always cheaper to go one size up than to rent a second unit later. Speak to our team and we'll help you size it right the first time.
